Augmented Reality
Mobile AR apps for Egyptian heritage
Since 2013, as part of my role at the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, I have led the development of mobile AR experiences that enable public engagement with Egyptian heritage.
Amduat Papyrus
Mobile AR app developed in 2025 for Bibliotheca Alexandrina Antiquity Museum to augment the 5 meters long Amduat papyrus with explanatory text and narration.
Available on App Store and Google Play.
Earlier in 2019, I led the development of a similar AR app to augment a larger papyrus.
Yuya Papyrus
Mobile AR app developed in 2019 for the Egyptian Museum to augment the 20 meters long Yuya papyrus with explanatory text and narration.
Available on App Store and Google Play.
Reliefs are also a very good object for augmentation.
Ra-Hotep Tomb
Mobile AR app developed in 2017 for the Egyptian Museum to augment reliefs from the Ra-Hotep tomb with explanatory text and narration.
Printed posters are ideal for touring exhibitions.
Tut Tomb
Mobile AR app developed in 2016 to augment a printed panorama of Tutankhamun's tomb, as it appeared at the time of discovery, with 3D models, text and narration.
Available on App Store and Google Play.
AR could be utilized to extend books content.
Post Museum Book
Mobile AR app developed in 2021 to augment the Egyptian Post Museum book digital content including images, videos, and documents.
Available on App Store and Google Play.
